For something that is so simple to a qualified technician, who knows what they are looking for, the cost to your business due to not using a professional installer can be detrimental. We’ve put this information together to highlight some of the potential issues that can arise if air filters are fitted incorrectly.
Early equipment failure
Improperly fitted or wrong sized filters will almost definitely cause air bypass. Air bypass in air filtration systems will cause soiling to the fans and coils, slowing air flow and leading to expensive call outs, cleaning or service charges or even equipment failure. Consider the cost if your equipment failed and had to be replaced? Probably not a risk you want to take, especially if you have several AHU’s in your facility.
Furthermore, improperly fitted or wrong sized filters run the risk of being drawn into the fan assembly, not only causing damage to the fan but potentially leading to a fire.
It is the responsibility of the business owners to provide safe working environments that are free from any known hazards that cause, or are likely to cause damage to health (HSE). A poorly fitting air filter or incorrect filter may allow large particles or other contaminants into the workspace, putting staff and visitors at risk. Contaminated air can cause headaches, fatigue, trouble concentrating and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat and lungs, as well as some specific chronic illnesses such as respiratory disease.
